Ink Blot Art
Thirteen Ways of Looking at an Inkblot
- Look at the positive shapes, or the ones made by the ink and water.
- Look at the negative shapes, or the white around and inbetween the shapes made by the ink and water.
- Look for repeated shapes.
- Look for the things that are symmetrical in your inkblot. Does that symmetry remind you of other symmetrical things in your life?
- What kinds of marks have you made? Long and thin, fat and blobby?
- What is the action like in the inkblot? Is it fast and splashy? Slow and contemplative?
- Is this a heavy inkblot or a light one? Is it cloud-like or as heavy and bold.
- Do you see two things side by side or facing each other?
- Do you see one thing facing you?
- Where is this inkblot? Does it look like it could be in the water? In the air? Buried deep in the ground?
- Is this inkblot loud? Or quiet?
- Is this inkblot hot or cold?
- Turn the inkblot upside-down, and answer all these questions again.
